Santo Servicio collection

UNDER CONSTRUCTION

The Ets Haim library has a large collection of the Santo Servicio coir sheet music related to our Services. These date back to the 19th and 20th century till ww2.

The inventory of this Santo Servicio sheet music collection has been updated in 2023 by Mr. A. Israëls.

Some parts of this sheet music have been recorded and are presented on dedicated web pages:

Chazzan Nabarro used some of this music collection in his repertoire. These can be found under Nabarro recordings.

Around 2021 some melodies of this music collection were recorded by mr Alderman. These can be found under Alderman recordings

Recordings of the Santo choir, restarted in 2003, can be found under Santo recordings.

In 2024 the Santo manuscripts were digitised, but not indexed. See the complete listing.. It contains 393 items. The majority of these items are scores of a single melody plus the related voices and sometimes multiple copies of the same voice. In total there are about 115 single melody scores. On top of that there are about 11 scores with related voices which have multiple melodies each.

Although the vast majority of the melodies are related to our Services, 4 compositions are Ashkenazi melodies. This can be seen from the pronunciation (e.g. CEH004.1: ledovid instead of ledavid). On top of that, 5 melodies are not related to our Services, but are Hebrew songs of praise (e.g. CEH123.1: בקול תודה ענו לא'ל אמונה) and 5 melodies are Dutch (folk) songs (see e.g. CEH113.1: Wie gaat met ons mee o ver van de zee).

Each manuscript identification code starts with the letters CEH followed by three digits which form the (random) unique identification number. Separated by a dot there is another digit which links different manuscripts (voices) together. Usually .1 will be the score, .2 the 1st tenor, .3 the 2nd tenor, .4 the basso etc. If the score is missing, 1 will usually be the 1st tenor.

On below pages I index al manuscripts and add recordings, where available. Mind that the recordings were usually made from the oral tradition and thus may be slightly different from the sheet music. I index the single melody scores by subject. The 11 scores with multiple melodies get a dedicated page, and so the songs of praise and the Dutch songs.

Recordings, if available, are made by NN, EA Santo Servicio post war coir (SaSo, revived in 2003) & JBSv
