Mussaf for Kippur
With Tallit.
All are standing
during Kaddish.|
During Rosh Hashana, avelim (mourners) do not say kadish.
During the day, two
men stand next to the Chazzan, called סמוכים
(Semuchim). The Kohen or the oldest Samuch stands to the right of the Chazzan,
the other Samuch stands to his left.
NN, tape
31 from minute 33:50, tape 32
and tape 33. As e.g. the Vidui
and Selichot repeat in all Tefillot, parts are taken from other Kippur tapes
(28-34).Some recordings by AAV
& JBS.
When NN says "gemeente"
(with "g" pronounced like Hebrew chet, "e" like shjeva and
"ee" like tsere) he means that that part is said
by the congregants.
Page numbers refer to the Mussaf part, unless stated otherwise.
See the errata
list of Kippur book. See "Lach"
vs "Lecha"
The יג מידות (Thirteen Attributes of
Mercy) are recited in total 26 times (the count of י'ה'ו'ה),
but these are printed only once each Tefilla. Therefore it is handy to have the text
on a sheet.

The Chazzan sings the first
part of עלינו
tillשלא
שם חלקנו כהם and
form ואנחנו
continues reading aloud. At first glance it looks strange that he sings when
the text is about idolatry, but stops the singing when the text starts about
our real God.
A possible
explanation is that this is coupled to our minhag (custom) not to kneel in עלינו.
We don’t kneel because the inquisition made our ancestors to kneel for
Christianity and therefore we don’t kneel for the real God anymore. For
the same reason we sing aloud that “they bow down for hollowness” but
read modestly that “we bow ourselves before the supreme King of kings”
(translation de Sola Pool, NY 1981).
