Mitzvah (funeral) at Ter Kleef

        בילע המוות לנצח, ומחה ה’ אלוקים דמעה מעל כל-פנים, ישעיהו כ”ה-ח
He will swallow up death for ever,
and the Lord G’D will wipe away tears off all faces.

The Mitzvah starts at the “Jadrich”[1] in Amsterdam from where, after a short ceremony, all drive to Beth Haim in Ouderkerk aan de Amstel for the actual Kevura (burriel).

Since the war the Jadrich was on the Snoge complex. Some 20 years ago, that was moved to another location, at Ter Kleef. When a mitsva starts from- or enters the Snoge complex, an extra gate must be opened, so Kohanim can enter the courtyard.

The Aron (coffin) is covered with a black cloth. Two candles in copper candlesticks are placed on the Aron.

Avelim, relatives and friends gather at the “Jadrich”, which is now a days located at Ter Kleef 6 in Amsterdam, about 30 minutes before the Mitzvah leaves to Beth Haim at Ouderkerk aan de Amstel.
