Chuppah

It is our custom to make a Limud in the evening before the Chuppahin honors of the Chatan.

About the Piyut for the Chatan (groom) פיוט לחתן (JBS)

Before the war Chuppot were mainly held in halls, only occasionally a Chuppah took place in Snoge. Since the war, most chuppot are held in Snoge. In 1957, parnaas (board member) Pomurgo donated the Chuppah used today, at the event of the Chuppah of his daughter.

Chuppah Esther Lopes Salzedo and Jacob Gokkes on 1 april 1942. Both did not survive the war.
Chuppah Maurits Cohen Paraira and Eva Sondervan on 29 January 1947 (uncle & aunt of JBS. The first sitting man is the groom, the third, Ph. A. Sondervan, the father of JBS).
Chuppah Esther Sondervan (daughter of JBS) and Gavriel Zoladz on 21 February 2005.

Usually, Minchah is recited before the Chuppah. If not, we start with the Derashah.

Nobody wears a Tallit during any part of the ceremony.

On the mentioned recording from 1960 we hear, after giving the ring, the Chaham saying “מקודשת בסימן טוב”. This is, as far as I know, not done today (waarom?)

[7] A glass is used. The Chatan gets wine from the Kallash’ father, the Kallah from the Chatan’s mother. Then the Chatan empties the glass and throws it over his shoulder.

From these sources it is clear that the original Minhag (Kol bo) was to brake the glass (הכוס) used during the ceremony as we do, and not just any glass (כוס), as most (all?) others do.

[10] The word ומצליח does not belong to the Berachah, and is therefore said after the אמן.
