Chuppah script
- Couple meets in the ma’amad.
- Chatan veils the Kallah.
- Chatan goes to the rabbinate;
while seated, rabbi reads the cetuba to the Chatan, Chatan & Edim sing;
all stand up, rabbi & Chatan lift the sudar (e.g. a handkerchief);
Chatan returns to the ma’amad.
- Kallah goes to the rabbinate;
while seated, rabbi reads the Cetuba to the Kallah;
all stand up, rabbi & Kallah lift the sudar (e.g. a handkerchief);
Kallah returns to the ma’amad.
- Guests take place in Snoge, men right, woman left (when facing the Heichal)
- Samaas places the Chatan, Kallah, parents, rabbi, Chazzan & Edim in the correct order and all proceed to the Snoge.
- Whilst entering the Snoge (right side), all stand. Baruch Habah is sung by Tzibur/coir, timed such that at “Kie Le’olma Chasdo” the couple has taken it’s place (see 8 below).
- Kallah & mothers take place under the Chupah. Chatan & fathers sit on the bench.
- Minchah (see table for details).
- Derashah, all sit.
- Erusin: all stand, rabbi sings Berachot, Samaas hands cup to parents who give the couple to drink (see table for details).
- Chatan recites “Harey At” (rabbi helps, if needed) and puts the ring on Kallah’s right ring finger.
- Chatan takes place under the Chupah, Kallah to his left.
- Nisuin: all stand; chazzan sings 7 Berachot, Samaas hands glass to parents who give the couple to drink (see table for details). Chatan empties the glass and throws it over his shoulder, to the right.
- Chatan unveils the Kallah.
- Chazzan recites ‘Mi Sheberachs’.
- All sit down, Tzibur/coir sing Shir haMangalot & Adon Ngolam. At “Bijado” all raise and the procession (arranged by the Samaas) leaves the Snoge (right side), timed such that they are at the doors when “Velo Ira” is sung.
- Guests leave the Snoge; two people with tassas stand at the doors to collect Tzedakah “por terra santa” (Erets Jisrael).
- Chatan & Kallah go to the ma’amad for Yichud (some 10 minutes), afterwards, Dotar hands over the donation (if applicable).

During the Erusin (11) a silver cup is used. During the Nisuin (14) a glass is used, which usually comes from the house of the Kallah. |
