The Chazzan used to wear a silken Tallit, donated by a Mr. de Castro. At a certain moment the Rabbanim decided that the silken Tallit was only permitted for Arvit. For the other services a woolen Tallit had to be used.

Boys start wearing a Tallit as of the age of 4-5years old.

Tzitzit have 10-5-6-5 windings, the number of yod keh vav keh (‘י’ה’ו’ה).
The oldest source for this minhag is Rabbi Solomon Molcho, born in 1500 and burned at the stake by the Inquisition in 1532. This can be found a.o. in ש”ע או”ח יא מגן אברהם כב, in the באר הטיב נד and in משנה ברורה ע.
