Shacharit for Medianos

This page describes the morning service for working days Medianos (חול המועד) Pesach and Sukkot.

Zemirot for Medianos are the same as any  working day except for Hoshana Rabbah because then the Zemirot are identical to Shabbat, just מזמור שיר ליום השבת is replaced by מזמור לתודה. On Medianos Pesach psalm 100 (מזמור לתודה) is skipped.

If there is a change of Chazzanim, this is the moment to change.

All are standing during Kaddish. There is no Kaddish for Avelim (mourners) on Medianos.

On the first six days of Sukkot we have the Minhag to decorate the Lulavim with colourful bows. The bows are removed before Hashana Rabba.

יעלה ויבא  is missing in all recordings. It is added below, but not inserted in the recording. On Shabbat the words המנוח הזה וביום are added, on Medians, the word טוב  is skipped.

Waving of the Lulav

•         During the Beracha, the Etrog is kept in the left hand and the Lulav in the right hand. The hands are kept apart. Only after the Beracha the hands are joined, so Lulav and Etrog meet.
•         After the Beracha we wave the Lulav to all six directions: three times to the east, then turn with the whole body[2] to the south and wave three times, then turn with the whole body (see כתר שם טוב part 7 pages 74-75 and קיצור שולחן ערוך השלם, רפאל ברוך טולידאנו part 2 page 355) to the west and wave three times, and finally turn to the north and wave three times. When back facing the east, we wave three times up and three times down.
