Zemirot for Weekdays

This page describes the Zemirot for normal weekdays, including Rosh Chodesh, Medianos (chol hamo’ed Pesach and Succot but not Hosha’ana Rabba), Chanuka, Purim and the public fasts, excluding Kippur and 9 Ab.

The Chazzan is standing on the Teba, Tsibur (congregation) is sitting. The Chazzan can sit if he desires to do so, and indeed, I remember some Chazzanim sitting.

If he decides to sit, he must stand with the tsibur during ברכות השחר (page 35), אנא בכח(page 42), קדיש (page 45), ה' הוא האלקים - ה' מלך (page 48), ברוך שאמר (page 54) and ויברך דויד ...לך משתחוים (page 59).

In general, the chazzan recites aloud only the first sentence of each mizmor. The last sentence is sung by the community, and then the by the chazzan. Some sentences in the middle of a mizmor are recited aloud.

Remarks	Tefillot	תפילה
Starting 2^nd Elul till 9 Tishri, Selichot (supplications) are said in the morning before Shacharit. If there is no minjan, we skip the 13 midot, but not the Aramaic texts. As it is already day, we put on tallit and tefillin before the Selichot. After the selichot, start אלקי נשמה on page 9	See webpage	סליחות

We put on Tefillin (not on Medianos – chol mahmoed) while standing and say only one beracha unless one talked. Originally tefillin were put on at home, tallit only after entering the Esnoga. Nowadays we put on tallit (first) and tefillin in the Esnoga first thing.	5-6	הנהגות

The (single) assigned avel (mourner) recites Kaddish. If there is none, the Chazzan does.	4-5	קדיש דרבנן
