Subintes (persons called to the Torah)
A subinte is the person called to the Torah. He says the berachot, but does not read from the Torah himself, that is done by the chazzan. Subir in Portuguese means to clime, to go up. So it is a translation of לעלות

Some remarks
 | Only the obligatory number of subintes is called to the Torah. Extra stops are not allowed. |
| Boys under Bar Mitzvah are called for Maftir. Read more on this. |
| A Chatan in the first seven days of his marriage or a father before the Brit Mila of his son are called as third. |
